About Us

Welcome to our homestead! I am so glad to have you here. My name is Tanisha, and along with my husband, Trey, we own a small farm in Western Kentucky. During the day, I work as a corporate accountant, and Trey is a journeyman HVAC tech. While our jobs do take up much of our time, the rest is spent working on our farm.

We have two wonderful children who also take up quite a bit of our time. They keep us on our toes and definitely keep our schedules full, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Being able to teach our children life lessons that I think can only be learned by hard work and responsibility are one of the main reasons we wanted to live on a farm in the first place. Maintaining a farm, even a small one like ours, takes so much work and time but it is so worth it. If you are on the fence about buying a few acres and jumping into the homesteading lifestyle, this is your sign to just do it!

Our farm holds a very special place in my heart as the land that we live on has been in my family for six generations. The original farm was purchased by my great-grandparents and consisted of over 100 acres. Shortly after they purchased it, my great-great-grandmother moved in a farmhouse that was located on the property. The land was passed down from generation to generation and eventually reached my parents. They raised tobacco for many years but were eventually forced to sell due to hard times financially. The land was bought by a local row-cropper, but the house and the five acres that it sets on were on the market for almost two years before my husband and I decided to buy it. And thus began our little homestead.

Currently on the farm we have horses and goats, as well as two dogs. In the future, we would like to expand into cattle if for no other reason than to be able to grow our own meat. Being able to fully grow our own food is a goal of ours, and this year we have started working towards that goal by building a small garden. We also had our first baby goat born on the farm this year, which has been so exciting and entertaining while also being a great learning experience.

We aren’t experts by any means, but we do want to share a little of what we have figured out along the way, and also what hasn’t worked for us. I hope that you enjoy reading along with our family farm adventures, and I hope that you learn a thing or two while you’re here. I’m looking forward to sharing some of our favorite family recipes and some home projects that we have tackled.

If you’re looking for a place to learn a bit about the homesteading lifestyle, you’ve come to the right spot. If you’re just here looking for a little entertainment, stay-tuned! There will be plenty of that sprinkled throughout my posts. It seems like there is always something exciting brewing on the farm.

Love and blessings!

Tanisha
